Gubernija Brewery

Dating from 1665, Gubernija Brewery is one of the oldest brewing facilities evolving from the original concept of estate pub and brewery, not only in Lithuania but in the entire Baltic region. New owners bought Gubernija in 1996, beginning a progressive new period in the history of the company, and in 1999-2000 a totally new and modern facility was built; the old brewery has been preserved as a Lithuanian heritage building.

Grand 9.5 Strong Beer, a Lithuanian lager, is a sort of missing link between the European strong lager, and the elegant strong Belgian ale styles. Being from Eastern Europe, it comes from the European strong lager tradition, but the addition of corn groats to its recipe gives it a sweeter character that edges it towards malt liquor territory. Grand 95, with 9.5% alc./vol., it has a slightly hazy golden colour. It's not overly sweet, and has a subtle hint of hops in the finish.
