Flor de Caña

Flor de Caña Rum, the pride of Nicaragua, was first produced at the San Antonio sugar mill in Chichigalpa in 1890. At the time, young rums were consumed to celebrate the sugar cane harvest. Limited quantities of better tasting "aged" rums were reserved for and savoured by the proprietors of the mill. As the preference for aged rum spread to the population at large, Compañia. Licorera de Nicaragua was founded in 1937 to meet this demand. Since the beginning, Flor de Caña (meaning flower of the cane) has stood for an unwavering commitment to creating the highest quality rums, aged in small, American oak barrels to acquire a smooth taste and distinctive aroma. Industry experts often refer to Flor de Caña rums as the "single malts" of the category.
