Casella Wines

Filippo and Maria Casella migrated to Australia in the early 1950s. Both arrived with the typical immigrant's vision of a better life for themselves and a secure future for their children in their chosen land. The Casellas brought with them the skills obtained from generations of grape growing in rural Italy, skills which would secure them the future in Australia that they covered.

Filippo began as an itinerant worker between North Queensland cane fields and fruit picking in the Riverina region of New South Wales. He saw the potential of the area and diversity of agriculture and, in 1965, purchased Farm 1471 at Yenda, just outside Griffith. Filippo established a winery in 1969, feeling it was a way to add value to the grapes he was producing and selling to local wineries.

In 1994, John Casella, son of Filippo and Maria returned to the family winery and embarked upon an expansion program which continues today. The heritage of Old World individuality and New World technology has created some of Australia's finest wines. Attention to detail with fruit from our own vineyards plays a significant part in the success of Casella wines.

[yellow tail] Chardonnay [yellow tail] Chardonnay The Chardonnay exhibits a golden straw colour with ripe peach and melon aromas and sweet oak nuances. The palate is fresh and approachable with balanced acidity and a lingering finish of delicious peach, melon and tropical flavours.

[yellow tail] Shiraz [yellow tail] Shiraz A vibrant, deep purple colour leads to a nose of lifted berry aromas with spicy notes. The full-bodied palate shows generous ripe fruit characters with underlying earthy tones and lingering sweet berry flavours. A touch of vanillin oak adds balance and softness to the long, enjoyable finish.

[yellow tail] Merlot [yellow tail] Merlot A rich, deep garnet colour with purple hues, the nose is packed with ripe plum and red berry aromas with hints of spice and vanillin oak. The palate is full-bodied and fruit driven, with fruitcake and ripe plums balanced with subtle oak usage. The finish is smooth with lingering flavours enhanced by a trace of spice

[yellow tail] Cabernet Sauvignon [yellow tail] Cabernet Sauvignon A vibrant, deep purple colour leads to lifted blackberry, dark chocolate aromas with hints of mint and vanilla. The wine is full-bodied showing generous, berry fruit characters with spicy notes. The palate has good length and well structured with toasty oak and soft velvety tannins prominent on the finish.

[yellow tail] Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon [yellow tail] Shiraz-Cabernet Sauvignon This varietal blend has a deep vibrant red colour with ripe berry notes on the nose. The palate shows an abundance of berry flavours and sweet oak characters, with a soft acid structure. It finishes smoothly with length and flavour.

[yellow tail] Shiraz-Grenache [yellow tail] Shiraz-Grenache The varietal blend is a fresh and vibrant wine made in an easy drinking wine style. This tasty young red exhibits lifted aromas of black cherries, rasberry and spice with undertones of sweet French oak. The palate has abundant ripe fruit flavours of blackberry and dark cherries with hints of pepper and spice.

[yellow tail] Pinot Grigio [yellow tail] Pinot Grigio Pale in colour, it boasts fresh green apples and pears on the nose, leading to a palate of citrus, apricot and slightly nutty flavours. It has a crisp, well-rounded palate with good mineral acid balance and a lingering finish.

[yellow tail] Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc [yellow tail] Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc Thid varietal blend is light green straw in colour. With fresh apple, pear and gooseberry flavours and lemon on the nose, it finishes clean, fresh and crisp. A perfect accompaniment to the summer season!
